done shows an overactive parathyroid gland. I had my
vitamin D levels checked and the number is 10. Could I be difficient in this vitamin and this is causing my levels to escalate? My bone density is normal.

Hi Dell: This is a tough question, and I'm not a Doctor, so it's hard to say what's going on. Have your Calcium and PTH been elevated over time, or is this 11.2 result a one time elevated reading for your Calcium? If your Cal and PTH have been elevated over time and your D low over time, I would ask the Dr if there is another test that could be done, that hasn't been, to check to see what's elevating the Cal and PTH and lowering the D.
Are you seeing a Dr that specializes in this area of medicine? If your insurance will allow a second opinion, I don't see any harm in doing that provided your test results warrant this. Getting a second opinion doesn't mean there is something wrong with your current Dr, sometimes it helps to have a fresh set of eyes on the evaluation of any given medical situation.
Don't panic, scores like this that are a point or so above normal (for calcium) can happen, you just need to find out what's causing it. I had a similar situation, but my calcium reverted to normal on it's own. If you've already had a sestamibi scan of the Parathyroid, maybe an ultra sound would tell the Dr more, and this is provided your insurance will pay for it, and your Dr agrees to order it.
Talk to your Dr and see what the plans are for diagnosing this. Here's a link that explains the role of Cal, PTH and D, with bone remodeling, but you say you have normal bone density so it's confusing. I wouldn't automatically take more vitamin D unless the Dr instructs you to, because you don't know what affect that would have on the other 2 scores.
Good luck, and have the Dr keep an eye on all these scores.
