Sunday, May 24, 2009 K asks

Q: I.m going to start forteo injections soon again. I had to stop after one month sample two years ago.

My insurance didn't cover forteo, now it does. Two years ago the pen was very difficult to use. Too many steps to get ready.I have arthritis in my hands & it was hard to do. I needed someone to help me everyday. I heard theres a newer pen. Does anyone  know about old one & new one. Please tell me new one is easier & better. I go for classes soon & I'll find out. I just would like to know before I go. How does the newer pen work ? How many steps ? Is it easy to use ? Can someone get back to me. Thanks - K

Hi K, welcome and thanks for your question..  I finished Forteo a year ago and did really well (improved t-scores, no new fractures) and didn't have any side effects.  The new pen has simplified the steps and should be easier to use.  I never got to use the new pen, because it came out after I completed the 2 years, so I hope this new design helps you a lot.  Here's a link on it with a video that shows all the steps, but it really looks so much simplier than it was.

Forteo pen video  After you get to the web site, you have to enter a passcode that would be on the front of your Forteo ID card.

Good luck with this, and if you have any more question don't hesitate to ask.  Check your email here at HealthCentral, I've sent you some more info.
