Hi Jean: I have heard about this type of surgery and you have my sympathy, it must have been very difficult. Did the surgery help to relieve any of the nerve pain? If you could re-post with this info that may help. To re-post just click on the "answer this" icon and enter any info that you think would be relevent.
I can't specifically answer your question, and I'm not a Dr., but I can give you some information that may help.
The five most common side effects from Reclast are:
-Pyrexia (fever)
-Flu-like symptoms
-Myalgia (pain in muscles and joints)
-Headache
-Arthralgia (joint pain)
These side effects don't occur in everyone, but during the trials on this drug a portion of the group listed these symptoms as the most common of the group. There's really no way to figure out if you might be one of those patients who might experience these problems, but you have a medical issue that is delicate, that you don't want to make worse.
If you had your surgery done by a Dr other than the family Dr that is rxing Reclast, I would talk to him or her and ask about these specific side effects, in connection to trigeminal neuralgia. As you'll notice, it doesn't mention nerve pain, but it does list other types of pain so I would "make sure" that this medication isn't contraindicated for the problems you have. Since I'm assuming your surgery was done by a surgeon and the Reclast is being rx'd by a different Dr., I would make sure the surgeon is aware of this medication, so they can weigh in with an opinion in this regard.
Here's a link from The New England Journal of Medicine that list all the side effects, not just the most common ones, and it gives more information on the drug and how it works.
Good luck, and if you can reply with more info that might help to know how your nerve pain is doing now that you've had surgery to help relieve it.
