Hi Daniel, welcome...This is a complicated question.  I'm sure you are aware that both hemochromotosis and Celiac are secondary causes for osteoporosis and osteopenia.  If you aren't aware of this here are two good articles on both conditions.

Hemachromotosis from the National Institutes of Health (NIH):  In this PDF, osteoporosis is mentioned on page 8.

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC1002534/pdf/westjmed00109-0070.pdf

Celiac disorder from NIH and NIAMS (National Institute of Arthritis, Musculoskeletal and Skin):

http://www.niams.nih.gov/Health_Info/Bone/Osteoporosis/Conditions_Behaviors/celiac.asp#c

Your options for FDA approved meds are listed at the link below from the National Osteoporosis Foundation.

http://www.nof.org/patientinfo/medications.htm

I suggest talking to the Dr.'s treating your Celiac and Iron over-load to see if any of the above meds would be contraindicated.  Depending on your t-scores and FRAX risk, previous fracture history etc., you may be able to approach this from a non-medication approach like exercise, vitamin D and calcium plus some other bone vitamins, but be sure to get your Dr.'s input for this to see if this is a possibility.  Since only your doctor knows your medical history, you'd need to discuss this with them since you have other medical issues that need to be considered, and we couldn't do that for you.

I hope you can find a suitable treatment with minimal side effects.  One thing to keep in mind, is that one of the side effects of the bisphosphonates are stomach upset and GERD, and I realize that Celiac can cause this too, so you wouldn't want to make the Celiac worse.  So please read about "all" the side effects on these drugs and then ask your physician for help deciding what to take.  Remember, the ultimate decision is YOUR'S.

Good luck and if you have another question, just post again.  Read as much as you can on all of this so you can make an educated decision.

hello Pam  Thanks for responding. THIS IS DANIEL and I have Already been checked for celiac disease and it is neg. I have Multiple sclerosis. I do have a allergist but no doc to take care of my bone problem, I was told by a oncologist I have pre-leukemia; maybe this is the problem. The oddest thing is when I take any anti-inflamatorys I hurt three times worse. This also includes tylenols. Well I will keep everyone posted. Bye for now!!!

Hi Daniel, we're so sorry to hear about your pre-leukemia!  I hope you're able to get this taken care of and resolved soon.  I guess you'll have to watch out for anti-inflammatories!  I've never heard of this particular side effect, but I'm aware of the others like, heart and stomach issues related to this drug.  Even though it's an over-the-counter medication, it can have many side effects, just like those medications that are prescribed by a doctor.

Good luck to you...

Hi Daniel, I'm not sure I understand your question.  Are you saying that calcium and vit D cause pain for you, or did I misunderstand entirely?

If you could let me know that would be great!  When we have bone loss, and even if we don't we need to get the appropriate amount of calcium, D and weight bearing exercise.  Since you have osteoarthritis, I would look into getting a good Physical therapy exercise program that will both strengthen your bones, and at the same time not further make the arthritis worse but better.  Water therapy is good for arthritis, but it isn't great for strengthening the bones because you aren't working against gravity during the workout.  A good PT would be able to tailor a good program for you that takes both of these medical issues and applies exercises for each.

Calcium, and D should not cause pain, if that's what you're asking.  Actually some get  pain relief from pain while taking D, but not all.

Good luck and let me know if I misunderstood your question.

Hi Daniel, glad you explained.  Yes calcium and D come in liquid forms.  Most vitamin stores, and any other store that sells vitamins usually carry the liquid form.
