Q: Actonel and tooth extraction

I take Actonel, 35 mg, weekly. I am due to have a tooth extracted in 3 months. Very worried about dead jaw problem, osteonecrosis. Should I stop taking Actonel and for how long before extraction.

Hi K:  Have you asked your dentist or oral surgeon what to do?  If they haven't advised you, I would definitely ask.  Even though osteonecrosis is rare, there are some guidelines you should follow according to the info the American Dental Assoc put out on this topic.

Here's the link to the ADA, maybe it will help.  The only way to know what to do is to ask the dr who is extracting the tooth to see what they think about this.

Good luck...
