Q: Should a woman take any of these meds if she does not have osteoporosis? Or, does one of these meds protect her from getting osteoporosis? Thanks

Hi Jackie, usually osteopenia can be treated with diet, weight-bearing exercise, supplements and life style changes, if you have any that would cause bone loss.  Some Drs will rx these meds to patients as a preventative measure, but many feel that shouldn't be done.

 

Talk to your Dr. about this and look at you family history to see if you are at high-risk for osteoporosis.  Be sure that what ever decision you make is yours, with the help and input of your Dr.
