Q: Is there a patient assistance program for people on Medicare D for reclast?

I have to have reclast infusion once a year for osteoporosis.  I thought I was going to pay only a copay for the infusion itself and a copay for the medicine but I got my bill today and I am having to pay coinsurance which I can not afford.  I am on Medicare D and am on other patient assistance programs due to high medical bills and on disability.  Does the manufacturer of reclast have a program for me?

Hi Frances, I'm so sorry to hear this about the cost of Reclast.  Can you contact Medicare and your patient assistance program to see if they can help.  Reclast is covered by Medicare Part B not Part D,  it's not covered under the prescription plan because it's administered in a hospital or infusion center.

You could also ask Medicare if there is some way to appeal the cost.  Since you are on an assistance program your income may be such that you'd qualify for some other type of help.  I really don't know what Medicare will tell you but contact them anyway. 1800 633-4227

Here's the manufacturers website (Novartis) see if they can help too

Good luck...
