Hi Sandra:  This topic is still under debate, so it's hard to answer, however I took Actonel for a 1.5 years and then took Forteo and did really well on it with greatly improved t-scores.  Since t-scores alone are not the sole predictor of fractures, you need to take this info and combine it with fracture risk, lifestyle, heredity and bone quality.  The info is important, but we need to remember that many other things cause fractures so rely on just a t-score is not enough.  If your husband hasn't filled out the World Health Org's fracture risk calculator, you might want to try that.  In the future this algorithm will be included in dxa scans and some already have it included.

Here's an article from the Cleveland Clinic on Forteo.  Read the entire article, if you can, and look at page 8 where it explains if Fosamax has an affect on Forteo in the paragraph entitled Unresolved issues and authors bottom line.

There are other articles you could read that have conflicting information on this, but I believe the general concensus now is if you need to take Forteo after taking a antiresorptive it shouldn't have a major blunting affect.

What does your husband Dr say?  I would talk to him about it and read the above link, and keep in mind that many of us did just this and did well on Forteo.  Since we are all different, in the way we react to meds, your husband might have slightly differing results.

Good luck...
