Study: Bedsores boost death risk after hip fracture

New research suggests that bedsores and pneumonia are major risk factors for death among nursing home residents who've suffered a hip fracture. For their study, scientists looked at data on 195 nursing home residents and assessed their risk factors for death. The investigators found that bedsores and pneumonia in the six months after hip fracture increased the patient's risk of dying by 70 percent.
