FDA: No clear heart problems with osteoporosis meds

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) says there are no heart rhythm problems associated with some osteoporosis medications. The conclusion was based on clinical trials conducted on nearly 40,000 women who were taking bisphosphonates such as Fosamax, Actonel, Boniva, and Reclast. In all four studies, researchers found that abnormal heart rate problems were rare. The FDA indicated that they will continue to monitor reports of abnormal heart rhythm in patients, but they say that patients should continue taking the medication as prescribed.  Read full story >
