Colon scan may ID cancer, osteoporosis

A test known as the "virtual colonoscopy" can identify more than colon polyps--it may also identify osteoporosis. The non-invasive procedure uses CT scans of the abdomen to identify lesions in the colon, but researchers say it can also measure the bone density of the spine. Experts say that while the abdominal scan is not as reliable as a DEXA bone mineral density test, it may be a good way to screen more Americans for osteoporosis.
