Bone density linked to hot flashes in women

Women who experience vasomotor symptoms (VMS) such as hot flashes or night sweats may be more at risk for bone loss, a new study suggests. Researchers in California analyzed data on 2,213 women. They found that postmenopausal women who experienced hot flashes or night sweats had lower lumbar and total hip bone mineral density than those without those symptoms. Premenopausal and perimenopausal women who experienced VMS were found to have lower femoral neck bone mineral density than those without.
