Forteo approved for drug-related osteoporosis

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has expanded the use of Forteo for use in people who have osteoporosis related to taking glucocorticoid medications. Glucocorticoid meds are often prescribed for people who have inflammatory conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis, COPD, and related conditions, and the drugs can increase users' risk of bone fractures. The expanded approval of Forteo is based on clinical trials that found the medication increased bone mineral density in participants spine, hips, and neck.
