Spinal cement no better than sham treatment: study

Using bone cement to mend a spinal fracture in osteoporosis patients worked no better than a sham treatment, two new studies have found. The studies, published in the New England Journal of Medicine, found that elderly patients who had vertebroplasty improved about the same amount as patients who received a placebo. There was also no significant difference in pain and disability levels between the two groups after six months.
