Patients who have orthopedic surgery at night appear to have a slightly higher risk of complications, a new study has found. Researchers say that night surgery teams have likely already put in a full day's work, and they may be suffering the effects of too little sleep. In a study of 203 patients who had a bone fracture, researchers found that those whose surgery occurred between 4 p.m. and 6 a.m. had a higher rate of follow-up surgeries than those whose surgeries were in the morning or early afternoon.
