Short-term, high-dose vitamin D2 may ease deficiency

Researchers say that high dose, short-term regiments of vitamin D2 can eliminate vitamin D deficiency, and twice-monthly doses can keep the condition at bay for up to six years. A dose of 50,000 IUs every week or two was dramatically higher than the recommended dose, but it did not appear to be toxic. Researchers say treating the toxicity could help prevent bone loss as well as other deficiency-related conditions such as autoimmune diseases and the flu.
