Calcium Linked to Osteoporosis, Higher Blood Pressure

Italian researchers say that postmenopausal women with low calcium levels are more likely to develop osteoporosis and high blood pressure. The study found that 35 percent of women who consumed the least amount of calcium per day developed hypertension and osteoporosis, while only 19 percent of the women who consumed the most calcium developed the conditions. Those who got the least calcium were also at higher risk of developing the diseases over time, researchers found.
