LicoricePosting Date: 08/19/2002
Because of its impact on the thyroid gland, licorice may alter the required dose of levothyroxine (Synthroid, Levothroid, Levoxyl). Likewise, its impact on cortisol may alter the effectiveness and appropriate dose of cortisonelike drugs. Aldactone (spironolactone) is likely to be affected by the action of licorice on aldosterone. Oral contraceptives may make women more vulnerable to hypertension, potassium loss, fluid retention, and other adverse effects of licorice. Copyright (c) 1999 by Graedon Enterprises, Inc.
