Zovirax can be taken with meals or on an empty stomach.

The dose for shingles is substantially higher than that for genital herpes. A new 800 mg strength was developed especially for zoster infections and must be taken five times a day. This is far more convenient than the 20 pill per day regimen previously necessary with the 200 mg strength.
