HEALTH INTERESTS:

Migraines,  Headaches,  Migraine with Aura,  Neuralgia

DRUGS I AM TAKING:

propranolol,  effexor

ABOUT ME:

I was 30 when I had my first migraine after an auto accident with a severe neck strain. My migraines were always once every 4 to 5 weeks and always lasted at least 3 days (sometimes it went into the 4th day). As I reached the age of 50 the migraines started to increase. I started using a progesterone cream and stopped having migraines for about 3 years. Then they came back with a vengence. I went to one neurologist who told me to get over it and just deal with it. I was refered to another neurologist, by my daughter-in-law, who was wonderful. He tested me first and we tried various preventative medicines until we found one that worked (Effexor). After about a year it stopped working and we added propranolol to the mix. That helped some but I found I could not work anymore (age 59). My migraines were coming once or twice a week at this point and although I could normally force myself to work through them I found now I could not. I retired on disability through my company life insurance company but after two years they are trying to decide whether I can now work "any" job not just my previous job. It is possible they will cut me off because of the misunderstandings about migraines. They are deciding at this point. I have also applied to Social Security (two years ago) and am still waiting for a hearing because I have been refused twice. I have been waiting about 19 months so far. I KNOW I cannot work now even taking the medicines that I take. I also have fibromyalgia and essential tremor as well as high blood pressure. That is my story for now. I will update when I hear from either the insurance company or Social Security. I have worked with these migraines for 30 years so I have not been avoiding my responsibilities. My body just said it couldn't do it any more.
