on Friday I received a letter from my psychiatrist who I have been a patient of since I was first diagnosed with schizoaffective illness in 1983 at the age of 23. I am writing at this time to ask if anyone could offer me some sound advice for picking a new a new...

ECT Treatments

Just wanted to post here that today January25th, 2012 Dr. Oz is going to do a segment on ECT Treatments. I for one am Anxious to see this segment to see just what his take is on these treatments. While some do not like these treatments for me such treatments did wonders. I had these treatments in 1983 and again in 1986 when it seemed no medication could relieve the deep depression I was experiencing.

I have gone a long and for that I am so Thankful

After reading David's post I decided to write about the very first time I was treated for my mental illness. It was 28 years ago on May24, 1983 and i had just recently graduated from college. I went on a camping trip with some friends from work and when driving hom I got confused and wound up at the same place I had just come from. Then the next day I went to work and this is what I remember from that day. I went to sign in and I saw a picture...

Congressman from Oregon

Yesterday I read on the internet about a Congressman from Oregon whose staff noticed strange behavior my him and wanted him to seek professional help. Well today the Congressman whose name I believe is Woo appeared on GMA and I was impressed with what he had to say. He said he realized some of his behavior on the campaign was strange and at times unprofessional. He went on to say he has received professional help and is on both therapy and...

Book review

I just finished reading Sandra Yuen Mackay's book titled My Schizophrenic Life; The Road to Recovery From Mental Illness and I would throughly reccommend her book to anyone wanting to read a good book on Mental Illness. I too suffer from schizoaffective illness and I found I could relate to her book 100%. It is a book that I read in a day or two and found myself wanting to read on and on once I started. She does a Wonderful job of explaining her...

Sad Story

I wanted to write this post to see how others feel. I mean no disrespect to the family involved and I do not know them. The story begins in a town in Indiana and it took place over a year ago. Two brothers one 17 and one 10 were at home alone while both parents worked at a casino in Indiana. The boys started to wrestle but then the older boy would not stop as his brothers was pleeding with him to stop strangling him. The older brother failed to...

Mental Health Awareness Week

I was Wondering what if anything states or cities anyone lives in is doing anything is honor of Mental Health Awareness Week? I live in Northern Ky around 20 minutes south of Cincinnati and to be totally honest with you I have seen very little at all being done for Mental Health Awareness week. I am disappointed in the local chapter of NAMI because it is not a very active chapter. I did see where the local Mental Health America was having an...
