ABOUT ME:

I am an educational administrator with training in counseling and psychology.  I have tremendous respect for the role the mind and our thinking and attitude has on our physical well being.  However, I am being humbled by how much pain can impact the body and thinking processes.  For over two years, I have been plagued by severe sciatic nerve pain. I am at a loss as to where to turn. I have followed all my doctor's and other professionals' recommendations - physical therapy, better ergonomics at work, increasing exercise and core strengthening, losing weight, use of anti-inflammatories and now stronger pain relievers and mediation that impacts nerve endings - all to no avail except for the most temporary improvements or masking the pain rather than eradicating it.  I am so discouraged and find the ongoing pain and discouragement is making it very difficult to concentrate at work and be at my best.  Unfortunately, I work in a fairly demanding arena and need to be on top of my game - there is not much latitude for weakness.  I can feel my productivity and ability to conduct myself professionally being impacted and thus have fears of losing my job - which would be devastating economically and psychologically.  I have tried to work in partnership with my current physician but am very dissatisfied with her proactivity, timely responses or seeming lack of concern.  I am at a loss as to how to find a doctor who understands and will work with me as a partner in trying to find ways to get to the bottom on the cause and options for relief or at least more effective management.  I hate being made to feel as if I am creating an inconvenience for my doctor or my work.  Any recommendations would be appreciated.  Also, I would like to know of doctors in the Orange County or Southern CA area that you could recommend. I don't know where to turn...
