DRUGS I AM TAKING:
I can tell you that I am a lifelong sufferer of anxiety and depression. It would be hard for me to say which is worse at times, the anxiety or the depression. Both are very difficult to dealt with on a daily basis.
My youngest son who has autism also suffers from anxiety issues. So between the both of us I am battling anxiety in some way, each and every day.
I am the Community Leader for several Health Central sites including My Depression Connection. So many of our members suffer from anxiety whether it is related to a mood disorder like depression or Bipolar Disorder or to a physical disorder or disease such as Multiple Sclerosis. I was just diagnosed with MS in 2007 and I have found that my anxiety has been more pronounced due to my neurological disorder.
My education and career has been focused upon the mental health field. I worked for a psychiatric hospital for over a decade before making the decision to stay home with my two boys who are now both teenagers. I have a Master's in Special Education and am ten credits shy of getting my Master's in Social Work. I have had the experience of leading therapy groups and I have also been a patient in therapy. So I understand the therapeutic process very well.
What I hope to bring to you is a firsthand experience of what it is like to have anxiety and be able to cope with it on a day to day basis. I can also tell you what it is like to be a parent who is helping their child manage their anxiety. Most of all I want to give you hope. Maybe I can't walk in your shoes. Nobody can. But I can walk alongside you and share my journey. Remember that you are not alone in this. We are listening and we care.
