ABOUT ME:
I found I had type 2 about 15 years ago, started with metformin, then after a few years added others to the mix. I am now using metformin (1000mg 2/day), glipizide (10mg 2/day), and Byetta 10 2/day. I am also taking Diovan w/Hctz 80/12.5 once a day for bp, Crestor (5mg 1/day) for chlorestoral, Gemfibrozil )600mb 2/day) for tri-g's, and Synthroid .075mcg once a day. whew! a lot of meds! The Crestor worked so good that my doctor decreased it to 5mg - I was originally taking 10mg.
What brought me to this site was the Byetta. I started it December 1, and in the first 14 days I lost 15 pounds, and was lifeless. I didn't have the nausea problem, but did have just an upset stomach. A few times I woke up in the middle of the night with severe heartburn. I have gotten used to what I can & can't eat - for example, pizza will bother me, but hot wings won't! Go figure. But I'm used to it at this point, and my weight loss has slowed down. I've lost 34 pounds to date, and am happy with that. I started back to the gym last week (after a 6 month absence)- we have a free gym at work - and am back on the circuit weight machines - I love 'em! I do 2 sets of 15 reps each on 10 machines (12.5 lbs of resistance) during my lunch hour 3 times a week. After 2 months, I'll up my resistance to 25 lbs, and start the in-between days on the treadmill and bike. But the weights are by far my favorite.
We haven't seen much improvement in my tri-g's. But mid-April is my first dr. visit since starting the Byetta, and I'm very interested in seeing my first bloodwork since starting it. My dr. put me on a 1200 calorie diet along with the Byetta, which by this time, I'm finding a lot easier to cope with. My energy is coming back and I'm generally feeling better all around. I do seem to have dawn phenomenom and I've tried taking my night time meds at different times for a month, but nothing seems to bring it down. It's usually not outrageously high (between 140 - 160), and is in the normal range by lunch time. I'll talk to my dr. during my April visit about this. Any other suggestions to help bring it down in the morning?
