Mental Doping: ADHD Medication Abuse

A few months ago, a friend gave me an article in the American Bar Association's Student Lawyer magazine discussing "Mental Doping" and the use of ADHD stimulant medication among students in law school. Some of these individuals legitimately have ADHD and need the medication - a situation which the article has compared to a person using glasses to correct a vision problem. In addition to this group of ADHD patients, there are also...

ADHD Linked to Pesticide Exposure

According to a new study, results indicate that "exposure to high levels of organophosphate pesticides, commnly found on berries, celery and other produce, could raise the odds for ADHD in children."

The study investigated the urine of 1,100 children to look for trace amounts of the pesticide. An alarming number - 94% - had the pesticide in their systems.

The kids in the study with higher pesticide levels had increased...

Reaching out to the community

I am going to working on an article for HealthCentral about bullying for children with ADHD and Autism. I am looking to interview a handful of people who have been subjected to bullying, and its effects on mental health - depression, anxiety, etc. and how this related back to the condition.

Has anyone experienced this? This could be someone who experienced ridicule as a child, someone who has been unjustly skewered in the...

Interesting News Story

Over on our News page, we currently have a news abstract for the following story:

Adopted Kids at Greater Risk for ADHD, Anxiety.

In light of the recent Russian-adoption situation and our knowledge of ADHD, is this an accurate conclusion?

Is an adopted child more likely to have a chemical imbalance, leading to ADHD? Is an adoptive parent more likely to have a child tested? Are the mothers giving up children for...

Medical Marijuana Leads to Job Loss?

Saw this interesting article on CNN.com about how a man who used medical marijuana lost his job over it , accused of drug use despite its medical qualities and a legal prescription.
Does anyone use medical marijuana? Should employers be allowed to prosecute those users for drug use despite its medical functions?

NCAA Tournament and Autism

Just read an article about an Autistic teen who picked the NCAA tournament's first two rounds perfectly .

It is estimated that the chances of doing that are 1 in 13,460,000.

Living With It - Autism

This article was passed on to me about living with a child with Autism, and some of the challenges that are faced along the way. Certainly this information is not new to anyone, but it presents a logical breakdown of what obstacles a family must endure with an autistic child. However, the article also touches on the positive aspects, including that this disability has in fact made a stronger family unit.

It is an interesting...
