The hard lesson learned when I stopped my meds..

I have had my times where I have reappeared and disappeared from this site. This time it is more of a story of triumph than of dispair. It started after my meds were changed and I started to feel so much better. After I changed my meds I started training again for the Scottish Highland games. I trained for the Caber Toss, hammer throw, stones, sheaf toss, and weight for height and started feeling better and better along with taking my meds. Then...

A funny thing about RA (Rheumatoid Arthritis)... don't let Lymphoma side effect scare you off a drug

First things first I would like to say hi again to everybody. It has been a while since I have posted on here, but it has been a great summer and until the weather changed the flares were minimal and with a move back to where I am from in Kentucky, a new job where I work from home, and being able to wonder the 200+ acres of wooded land back in the beautiful hills of Eastern Kentucky!

I recently started seeing a new Rheumatologist since...

Alternative RA Treatments

As I was reading I ran across an article about Alternative Treatments for Rheumatoid Arthritis a few thoughts ran through my mind. After being in Korea during my time in the military I am not against alternative medicine. However, it is a dangerous thing when you have Rheumatoid Arthritis to change or add to your treatment without discussing this with your Rheumatologist. Not doing this could lead to severe issues. Example: You are...

I WONT GIVE UP!

I won't give up! I won't give up! Since my diagnosis, and more so the living life as a MALE with Rheumatoid Arthritis I keep having to tell myself that I won't give up and I will keep on living.

Since my disapperance from the site I have lost my insurance and have been fighting to get the care I need. During this I have also been in close contact with my elected officials here in Ohio since I am now an Ambassador for District 7 for the...

Another return, and pray I can keep it up this time

I wanted to apologize for my severe absence from the site. I lost my insurance in Feb and trying to get the care I need from the VA Hospital has not been a very easy task.

It seems to be getting better and I will attempt to keep up this time. I also will try to keep you informed as I am now the Ambassador for District 7 in OHIO for the Arthritis Foundation to the US Congress.

Lets home I can start this all over again with a better...

From Top Level Athlete to RA Depression and the beginning of the comeback trail

When I was 17 years old I joined the United States Army and found myself in basic training. I enjoyed the challenge and yes it was stressful. I thrived on being an M1A1 Abrams Main Battle Tank Armor crew member. I also enjoyed the physical part as well as the mental part of being on the tip of the spear. After basic I was assigned to Bravo Company 2/72AR in Camp Casey Korea. One of two Armor units responsible for patrolling the DMZ on the North...

When you take a Stand

Even though I have only been on this journey for a short period of time since I received my diagnosis of Rheumatoid Arthritis I felt I wanted to tell you about taking a stand against a Med my Rheumy wanted to put me on.

During my last Rheumatologist Visit my doctor and I discussed the option of me being put on Methotraxate. After coming home and researching the side effects I decided that I will not go on this medication. I have other...

Dreams and Random Thoughts

Often times we spend days wondering "what if?"
The "What ifs?" That come up from time to time are the following:
-did I make the right career choice
-what would I do if money were no object
-should I make a career change
-what are my real passions in life

I know the answer to the last for me; Aviation, Business, Safety of Aviation, Aircraft Maintenance, and Photography.

Being an Aiframe & Powerplant Mechanic who takes everything...
