ABOUT ME:

I will be 59 this month.  My husband and I live in a retirement community; he is Senior Carrier for the USPS and I'm a writer...fiction, non-fiction and poetry.  I'm also an animal welfare activist and serve as Vice President of our POA.  For now.

Between the two of us, we have three children and six grandchildren.  However, we've ended up living far away from them, so it's usually just the two of us on a Sunday afternoon checking out the local flea markets and restaurants.  Hubby loves to fish and that's why I love HIM.  He bought me a rod and reel for my birthday....can't wait to use it.

Arkansas is blessed with tons of gorgeous lakes for fishing and water sports.  Art galleries can lure us inside on a sunny afternoon when we find ourselves on Central Avenue.  I met hubby while working at the Wax Museum on Central; he delivered the mail....that was almost sixteen years ago.  Without him, it wouldn't be possible to enjoy life as much as I do.  He's more concerned about my headaches than I am because I've lived with migraine pain for decades.  I just wasn't prepared for a new type of migraine.  Bummer for sure!!

My last PAYING job was as security camera monitor at a local department store.  It was boring one minute and totally tense the next.  Loved it...but I had to quit in '06 in order to travel back to my home state of New Mexico to help take care of my best friend (that's her in the picture...on the left..with me last year) while she was on chemo for breast cancer.  Since then, I've gone back one more time while she was on chemo for lung cancer.  She's in remission now but her doc told her in no uncertain terms...it WILL come back.  Because of these new ocular migraines, I won't be traveling back there alone..and maybe not at all.  I've been driving across the state of Texas to go back home for three decades and that's not safe anymore.  These headaches could hit me at the wrong place and time and I'd be in deep trouble.

So, I'm home-bound for now.  I may have to cut back on my computer time.  Sitting here as much as I do causes tension and stress on the very muscle where the ocular migraine begins.  Which means, it's one day at a time trying to figure out how to beat 'em.  Eliminate this; try that...and see what happens.  With a little help from this site, maybe I can tell the doctors what they don't yet know about migraines.  I'm way too young to feel this old.
