I am a 50-year-old wife and mother of an amazing 17-year old daughter. In 2004, I was blessed to receive a kidney transplant from an anonymous donor in Wisconsin. It was a perfect match and was flown to Georgia where I live and is working beautifully. The medications I take to prevent rejection gave me diabetes, so I take a lot of medicine to stay well. That's okay, because I get to enjoy spending time with my husband and very 'full of life" daughter. Both of them have been very supportive while I was waiting for my transplant (2 years) and afterwards. The past year has taken its toll on me -- I spent 16 days in the hospital with pneumonia in May and 8 days in the hospital with pulmonary embolism in September. Since then, I have been diagnosed with asthma, chronic broncitis, hiatal hernia, stomach ulcer, sleep apnea, and possibly acid reflux. But, I have been slowly getting better and am getting out more. My daughter and I like to go shopping and out to lunch and my husband and I like going out to dinner and just spending time together. He says that he's happy that I am here to spend time with and I agree.PHOTOS:
