Still in the Game!

I was diagnosed with RA in 2001. I was pretty sick at the time and it was a struggle to get thorugh each day. At work they suggested I start using a cane. I guess I wasn't moving so good. Pain and fatigue were center stage in my life and all my energy was directed toward getting through each day at work.
I had been an active boater during the decade before my diagnosis, but I put the sailboat on the market that...

It's all in the footgear!

I've been wanting to increase my exercise for obvious reasons but have been avoiding walking (running is out of the question!) as it is hard on my joints. I have been swimming and riding my bike whenever I can, but there is nothing like the convenience of just opening my front door and going for a daily walk. And that is exactly what I have been doing of late. I only walk about 20 minutes a day so as not to overdo it. I...

Creaky joints

Well, winter seems to have arrived here in North Carolina and my joints are really creaking today. I don't know about the rest of you, but when it gets like this I wanna move further south. I know the summers in Florida are hot, but I don't mind the humidity. The hotter it is the smoother my joints work. I could use a hot day right now. Long term this native New Yorker is probably headed for God's waiting room...that would be...

acupuncture or massage therapy

Hello all-
Well, the last 2 weeks have been interesting ones for me. First, my shoulder flared up. It was very painful and I couldn't sleep. Went to the doc and to my rheumy. The doc gave me "Michael Jackson" drugs for the pain and my rheumy put me on Lyrica. As if I am not taking enough stuff already!!! I decided to try a chiropractor.Never been to one before but she helped some but hard to tell if it was her or just time...

Celebrex

Hi gang! I hope you are all successfully "weathering" this endless winter. it can't last much longer...can it? Hey, I've been taking Celebrex for a couple of years now along with my Enbrel and methotrexate. I take it 2 times per day...200 mg. each pill. This combo has worked well for me, but I wonder about the long term effects of Celebrex on my ticker. Anyone have any thoughts/input on this? I have thought...

My story

Melinda Winner suggested I share a little bit about me so here it goes: I am 59 years old and was diagnosed with RA in 2001. At that time, I was teaching 2nd grade in upstate NY. Things were pretty bad then. It was all I could do to get through each day and I spent every non-working minute recuperating for the next day or work week. On some days every joint hurt and co-workers were suggesting I get a cane. I moved like an 80...
