Worked many areas of nursing, including 2 years as an oncology nurse, but that was twenty years ago. There have been many changes in breast cancer related treatments since then. I work full time, 12 hour night shifts, on a heavy critical care type unit. I am only concerned with being able to continue working while taking my course of chemotherapy. However, I am excited to talk with the doctor about the newest medications for side effects. I am a single mom with my 20 year old son returned back home from time away. My other son lives in the next state with his family, as well as my family of origin. Everyone tells me to let them know what they can do to help me, when needed. The problem I have is that I have always been a very independent woman, and the one helping everyone else out. I raised my sons alone, while putting myself through college. I really don't know what I am supposed to ask for help with, to be honest. I would appreciate any suggestions that you all can give me, especially as my therapy will be done out-patient. All I can foresee is needing help with shopping, cooking, cleaning and, maybe laundry. Thank you for having this website available. I think this is the kind of help I will need most......emotional/mental support. Thank you!
