ABOUT ME:

The UNC Center for Women's Mood Disorders is a comprehensive women's mental health program providing clinical care and research for psychiatric disorders across the female reproductive life cycle, including depression during pregnancy and postpartum (Perinatal Depression), Pre Menstrual Dysphoric Disorder (PMDD) and peri-menopausal mood symptoms.

Dr. Samantha Meltzer-Brody is the Co-Director of the Perinatal Psychiatry Program of the Center. Her current research efforts are focused on Perinatal Depression. She has collaborated and was co-author on a federally funded Systematic Evidence Based Review of Perinatal Depression sponsored by the Safe Motherhood Group and the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) that was published in Obstetrics and Gynecology. She also recently served as the mental health advisor for the North Carolina Women’s Health Report Card. Her current research is focused on studying the psychophysiological and genetic models of psychiatric illness to study neuroendocrine abnormalities and genetic contributions associated with postpartum depression (PPD).
