Why Headache Education and Support Group Leaders are So Important

Recently I found myself reading an old issue of The NonProfit Times, a business publication for the nonprofit sector. As I was leafing through it, I came across an article about the role of government in supporting volunteers, and realized how many of us depend upon volunteerism without being aware of it. I suspect that you may not realize how important a headache education and support group leader is to the National Headache Foundation (NHF),...

Headaches, Migraines, and the Economy

In a recent online survey, the National Headache Foundation queried Web site visitors regarding how the economic downturn is affecting them and how they manage their headaches and Migraines. Not surprisingly, the study reveals that they make significant changes in headache and Migraine treatment and prevention methods during a financial crisis.

The survey revealed that 82% of respondents claim to have made financial cut-backs due to the...

E-mail Pen-Pal Program: More Headache and Migraine Support Online!

-from Susan Barron, NHF Support Group and Membership Services Coordinator

Working for the National Headache Foundation (NHF), I frequently hear from headache and migraine sufferers that they lack adequate support. This is not to say that their families and close friends aren't there for them, but after a point, even the most understanding spouse, sibling or child may lose heart from the interruption of social activities or the lack of...

Getting Your Headache Diagnosis Straight

-from Suzanne Simons, NHF Executive Director
The term "headache" is often overused. "Headache" means different things to different people. Some sufferers say they have a "sick" headache or a "stress" headache, but regardless of what you call it, determining what type of head pain disorder you have is the first step to finding appropriate treatment.

In a recent online survey by the National Headache Foundation (NHF), 73% of headache...

What’s a Headache or Migraine Sufferer to Do without Support?

-from Susan Barron, NHF Support Group and Membership Services Coordinator

Although my "headaches" didn't
start until I was in my mid-30s, I was completely unaware of what was happening
to me. I didn't have a clue as to why I was so sick at work and in the bathroom
several times a day, and then as soon as I got home, headed straight to bed
with a terrible headache. I was
convinced I had a brain tumor. Because I

National Headache Awareness Week - June 1-7!

I am so happy to be blogging with you today about the
National Headache Foundation (NHF) and National Headache Awareness Week (NHAW),
which takes place June 1-7. You may be wondering what the NHF is.
We were established in 1970 as a non-profit organization by a group of
physicians who understood the need for an organization to provide support and
information to all types of headache sufferers.

So who are we today?...
