I'm still here' just been very busy

Hey everyone, Its been a couple of months since I've checked in, sorry. I hope everyone is doing well. I have been super busy with some business with my mom, she was diagnosed with a super bad kind of leukemia and has been given very little time left with us, according to her doc its very aggresive and they won't treat her. He said the first treatment would kill her. That was the beginning of May, she's doing fairly well. We have hospice coming...

It's me again

Just got back from pt and same old thing, very little movement. I guess its steady as she goes. I do love the corn husk machine though I would love to have one. It blows hot, ground up corn husks all over and around your hands for 10 minutes. It feels like grits or cream of wheat for the northerners in a whirlpool. She let me put both hands in today cause I was so sore. I asked if I could do some little things like paint my toenails and she...

5 weeks after surgery

I guess the posting problem has resolved itself, yea. I'm still not able to do anything with my hand except shower without the splint. Its starting to get annoying. I tried to pluck my eyebrows the other day, no luck, I can't hold the tweezers tight enough yet. My left hand can't take much more, It is sooooo sore. It lives in a splint too most of the time now. I really want to see how this new joint is going to work. My hand really looks kinda...

2 weeks after surgery

Hey everyone, It's been 2 weeks since my surgery and I'm doing well. They removed my trapezium bone in my right hand and replace it with one of my arm tendons, then tightened things up. I'm still in a splint not aloud to move my thumb or wrist for 2 more weeks. I've been to PT 4 times but only to wash it and change the dressing. It's healing very nicely and the surgeon did a great job as far as the scar. It's very neat and thin. The...

Surgery tomorrow

Tomorrow is the big day for me, and I am nervous. I went and registered today at the hospital which didn't help the butterflies in my tummy at all. I have been working like crazy around the house trying to make sure everything is clean and tidy, laundry done and I even cooked up 11 meals and put them in the freezer to help the family out. Being without a right hand for a while is going to be hard. I was worried about being able to do...

Reconstructive thumb surgery

I went to see Dr. Evil again, the ortho hand specialist, he is going to do some reconstructive work to my thumb next month. I am excited and terrified all at the same time. I am excited to think that maybe I'll be able to use my thumb again and terrified it will be worse or no better at all. The doc said he won't know exactly what he's doing until he gets in there. He's gonna go in with a camera and see what all he can fix, like the trigger...

Exercise, why does it have to be so hard?

Before RA I was about as fit as a person can be. I walked several times a week and spent alot of time in the gym. I had a body to be proud of, nice arms and a tight little butt for a 40 something year old. But now it's like I can't get anywhere exercising. I have been walking about 5 miles a week for a month or so but any amount of arm exercise is so painful. It doesn't hurt while Im doing it but later that day OMG it hurts. I am doing minimal...

What a relief, I was approved for ssd

Hooray, I was approved to receive my social security disability benefits. I applied on-line on September 1 and got the call to come down and fill out the ending paperwork. What a relief, I have been through so much this year and this being at the head of all the stress. The hurry up and wait of it all. But I am so glad now and right here at Christmas too. What a great gift! My family had to give up some of their priviledges since I quit work in...

Hand specialist

I have been seeing a hand specialist ortho doc for a couple of months now. He has said that I am a triple threat with the RA, I have trigger thumbs and lots of bone spurs and bone on bone grinding. Why must I go through the cortizone shots? First one was in the middle joint to help with the trigger thumb tendons. I didn't see much if any improvement. Then today he wants to inject my wrist/thumb area. I've had these done before with my rheumy and...
