The first migraine I remember was watching my Dad clean a fish at about 7 yrs old. I did not have a migraine diagnosis until my twenties. I recently lost ANOTHER job because of migraines. I am trying to get my unemployment and also thinking long range, I am applying for Social Security Disability. I suffer and average of 2-3 migraines per week. Because I will no longer have access to enough shots to get me through the month, I will have to go to ER when I can't take the pain.
I have been referred to a neurologist, and have been told I will likely start on a merry go round of trial and error to see if anything helps. I am trying to reduce Rx and reach a baseline that will be real and not side effect induced.
My children are grown and I have a loving and supportive spouse who has done his best to relieve me of the guilt of yet another employment crisis.(my sixth in 15 years.) I was somewhat content to live with the daily headaches, and the imitrex shots for the migraines, but now, I am forced to a crossroads. I haven't met the neurologist yet. My trust level is low, and I am fearful of a revol ving door of one med after another until I don't know which end is up.
