ABOUT ME:

Hi everyone! My name is Toi. I'm 15 years old, and have Systemic Rheumatoid Arthritis.

I was diagnosed at the age of two, and I have had 10 surgeries (multiple synovectimes and exploratory surgeries, tendon release, and two manipulations under anesthesia) on my left knee, my most recent being a total knee replacement on June 9th! Yep! I'm bionic and I'm proud! :D One day I want to go to the airport and annoy the metal detector people! That reminds me I still need to try sticking refrigerator magnets to my knee....XD

I've been on many, many medications. I'll try to name all of the ones I can remember. ^^; Methotrexate (A.K.A. Chemo), Soginal (A.K.A. gold), Celebrex, Enbrel, Plaquenil, Prednisone, Humira, Mobic.... Ummmmm I bet there's more but I can't remember! I'm currently on Mobic, and it's not working, so I'm going to be on Orencia in a few days. Nothing has seemed to work great long term. Orencia and Remicade are the only things I haven't tried. I can't be on Methotrexate, because I had an allergic reaction when I was around 4 or 5, causing me to lose my appetite and become anorexic. So I've basically been a human lab rat all of my life. I've been on most of these med.s before they were FDA approved for children. Infact, I think I was one of the first, if not the very first child to be put on Enbrel.

Right now I go to physical therapy three times a week for my knee replacement. My knee has improved a lot compared to when I first came home from the hospital. For awhile it was stuck bent from all the scar tissue build up from the many previous surgeries on that knee, so they had to do a manipulation under anesthesia. Since then my range has improved tremendously. But what stinks is my right knee has recently swelled up. That's why I'm having Orencia infusions ASAP.

Life can be very hard, and painful, but I try to stay positive. I usually try to find humor in everything. I keep saying I want a shirt that says "Total Knee Replacement And Love'n It Baby!" C:

I don't have many hobbies, but I really enjoy watching Anime and reading manga. My favorites are: One Piece, Black Jack, Zatch Bell!/Konjiki no Gash Bell!, Full Metal Alchemist, and Kaleido Star. (If anyone knows what I'm talking about, you're awsome...) I have three pet hermit crabs that I take care of which I love and adore (did you know they can live for 30 years+ O_O), and one beta fish named Inochi. I also really to draw. Lately on the nights I can't sleep, (which has been the past two months really) I draw.

Well I guess that's it! -^^- (I hope made seance, I typed this at 2:00 in the morning while on pain med.s for my knees ^^;;)
