The best birthday present ever!

This last weekend was my 55th birthday, but my first since my mother died in May. My father is in memory care since a heart surgery in January. He has vascular dementia and delirium that comes and goes. When I find him doing well on a Friday night I either spend the night at his "condo", bring him to our house or up to the lake. Friday I took him up to our RV at the lake and we had time together just the two of us. He had maybe 3 delusional...

How do I protect my vascular dementia Father from money grubbing siblings?

My father has been in memory care since January when he had heart surgery and came out with vascular dementia and delirium. My mother died on 5/11/09 17 days short of 67 years of marriage. My brother badgered my mother over material things during her last months. She also gave into him to be co-personal representative with me, on her special needs trust and power of attorney before she died. I had been on my parents will for over 25 years as the...

WE moved Dad's furniture to the care center after Mom's death

My out of town sibling left the house on Saturday after staying there for 10 days after Mom died. We moved the furniture Dad wanted in to his "condo" on Sunday. He LOVES his little fridge so he can have diet soda and diet ice cream bars. We got it on Craigs list and it has a LOCK on it so people can't take his soda. He has his queen bed and had forgotten how good it is to have room to really move around (twin bed since January, last time he was...

My father with dementia attends Mom's funeral

When my mom died on 5/11 I immediately called the care center and said, do we allow him to see mom dead? Should he go to the funeral? He saw her on mothers day and left quickly saying he needed to go back to the condo and retire and go back home to help care for mom. (he thinks he works at the memory care center and his room is his condo). He did great both at the hosptial and the funeral. We didn't take him with us to make the arrangements and...

had a great day with Dad, sweet tender times

Saturday I took my 86 year old father up to our RV communitiy www.lmch.com My husband is attempting to build his first wood project, a sunroom to be attached to our RV (under a shelter). My father was a union card holding carpenter for 50 years and my husband is know for his excellent work with metal, but not so much experience with wood. So I asked my father to come inspect my husband's work before the inspector came. My father just glowed that...

The Rodeo went GREAT for my vascular dementia father's 86th birthday

Thanks for all the advice on this site. I heeded some advice and ignored others, just how it is in life. To set the stage...there were six of us going to the Toughest Cowboy Rodeo in Portland Or last night. My company has a suite that seats 15 to 20 people. No steps, free easy parking, soda and snacks and...a private bathroom.
My sister is in end stage renal failure in an electric wheel chair, my mother now lives alone since my father's surgery...
