I am 36 years old and have been living with acid reflux for at least 20 years. I remember back to when I was 16 not being able to make it from a breakfast restaurant to the car without gagging to the point of tears and having to fight to hold my breakfast down.
I was finally diagnosed with GERD about 5 years ago, and put on medicine for it. Since then I've tried Prilosec, Protonix, Aciphex, to name a few, and have yet to try one that totally relieved my symptoms.
I was diagnosed with Barrett's Esophagus and a Hiatal Hernia in 2004.
I have recently gotten a referral to a Thoracic Surgeon and have discovered that I am a candidate for the Nissen Fundoplication sugery. I have just undergone my 3rd endoscopy, and my 2nd Manometry and Ph testing this week. The endoscopy showed that my lower LES produces no pressure, and also confirmed the diagnosis of a sliding hernia and Barrett's. I am now awaiting the biopsy results and the Ph manometry results. My follow up is scheduled for July 31.
I am anxiously awaiting the word that my surgery will be scheduled. I dream of the day that I can live without pain, and eat whatever my heart desires!
