ABOUT ME:
Over the years I have been a writer, editor, poet, artist and single mother; but, I still don't know what I'm going to be when I grow up. Currently, I am administrative assistant to Master of Public Administration program at my collegiate alma mater in Georgia.I have no plans for retirement, because working gives me a reason to function each day. When the weather changes and my pain level surpasses medication level, I could just stay in bed all day. Retirement would allow me to slip into that pattern, and I know that it would spell disaster.
My primary task at the moment is reconnecting with my creative self in order to express the things that I am forced to keep bottled up while "trying to act normal" each day. Few people know that I suffer with continual pain, but in order to keep functioning without complaining I have isolated myself more than I realized. Besides, who wants to hear about someone's aches and pains all the time.
If I were much younger, I would go back to school and study to become an art therapist, because people often communicate through creative expression when words fail them. We have no local program in art therapy, plus I couldn't get past statistics in order to get into the graduate psychology program, so I suppose my mission is just to "start creating," and let things flow as they will.
At one point I had a small wearable art shop in an historical little town in Tennessee. It was great fun and seeing customers' eyes light up when they tried on trendy handmade outfits was worth every minute of hard work. Let no one kid you -- owning your own business is a 24/7 proposition, and there is little time for creating new things.
I will post some photos of my work, and perhaps you can encourage me.....and vice versa.
