A bad morning in checkbookland

Oh, the things I didn't know.

The elation that would grow, the pain that didn't show is all back. I want to run, I want to run away from things I see- I want to run away from me. Get in my car, put music on, get on the highway and drive for miles until I'm far away from money issues. And untold stories and hurting, and finding that all my work may be for naught. Is that possible? It's too expensive to be sick, and to feel well, well,...

IV experiences and advocacy- a tale

Needle sticking into warm pale flesh
She shakes her head and pulls it out, only to try again.
She looks at my arms, my wrists, my hands
All of the scars from previous painful episodes
Other trips to this place
Other people sticking my now very scarred flesh.

I wish I could do this myself

“That vein rolls,” I say
As he tries anyway
And Blood SPRAYS over my new jeans.

“I told you I...

Ironic Insomnia

I spent the day sleeping away the pain-
So I could spend the night awake and alone.

It's almost 5am- and the good infomercials don't start for yet another hour.
(I know this all too well.)

My body is curled on the couch...
So I won't wake the cats= all snoring happily away.
Why can't I join them in peaceful slumber?

Filling out forms for doctors

I need a local Headache specialist/ Neurologist here in NC to work with my Headache Specialist- who's in Dallas, TX.

So, I'm going to see a new doctor on weds, and before I get there, I have 15 pages of information about myself to fill out. It's funny, as I'm raising the dose of my gabitril, and I have some side effects going on- nothing serious, but, I quote "Have you had any of these reactions in the past month." Well. Yes....

Turning off the TV?

I planned to watch this game tonight
Planned to watch it all day.
It was on my calendar.
for 8pm today.

I can't stare at the TV anymore
The nausea's come to stay.

Guess I'll change my plans.
I planned to watch the game today
Didn't want to anyway
It's just a stupid basketball game....

If you know me, you know I don't really feel that way.

Words to wait by.

I'm tired of waiting
Tired of others waiting for me
Me needing to wait
Waiting never seemed as long as it does now.
Now is forever
Forever isn't definite
Definitely I know that
That I'm waiting
Waiting for help
Helpers many and all
All I used to do for myself
Myself, I, and me.

Triggers- R- Us (a Headache Clinic Visit)

When you think of a headache clinic, you picture a calm place with soft lighting, possibly soft music playing in the background, and rules about what can and can't be permitted on the premises.

Before my appointment, I had asked about the fact that I had coffee with me, and was that a problem? The person behind the desk looked at me like I had two heads. I said that the strong smell of the coffee might trigger someone sensitive...

My letter to my formerly perfume-wearing mother!

Mom,

I know that you understand that I live with a genetic neurological disease, and that I work very hard to do as much as I can to control my quality of life. Migraine Disease is insidious in that it’s poorly understood, and even though people want the best for me and others who live with this disease, they can unwittingly contribute to hours and even days of pure misery. In my case, certain odors or perfumes are a Migraine...
