I've lived with depression all my life, but only 15 years ago was it correctly diagnosed as Bipolar II. It's hard to complain about mild mania, but depression is hard to get through. If you looked at my entire family tree, you'd see a lot of family members with alcoholism, depression, or other brain disorders. Growing up with my own depression in a family with an alcoholic/depressed parent and fearful/depressed siblings complicates the number of issues I grapple with and endure. I thank my psychiatrist and my husband for helping me stay high-functioning enough that few people know I have a so-called mental illness.PHOTOS:
