October 2010: I am not able to afford my medications; haven't had them for nearly a year. Well, I have a tiny supply of my ADHD medication that I take a nibble off of when I go to work, literally. My doctor had prescribed about 10 times as much, but I have not seen him in nearly a year.
I would like to request help from a Ritalin (or other ADHD medication) manufacturer; if anyone knows anything about getting help from one please let me know. Have you had any success with help like this? I could probably figure out a way to see my doctor if I could somehow afford the medication that he could prescribe for me.
I have been going to school online, and have been making good grades. This is great for someone like me because I can spend what ever time that I need to doing my work, etc. (I do have due dates.)
My child and I live in an extended stay type hotel, but it is actually very nice. He is a very happy kid and it does not bother him that we live here. I also no longer have a car.
Many people who have ADHD (actually I only have ADD) experience setbacks like I have; financially, job wise, etc. I could be a good case study in the subject! Do you ever feel like you have fallen through the cracks; no one is there to help you? If I had outward signs of medical problems maybe people would understand and help, but I don't, so many people do not understand my having so many problems in life.

June 2008: Hello. I am so excited that I am finally going to get started on ADD medication again this week. I have not had health insurance for several years and finally I do! I am working full time at a job that I enjoy even if I don't make as much money as I would like to. I am a preschool teacher and enjoy teaching my children and being creative. I went through several preschools until I found one that I liked and that wasn't annoying to work for. I struggle with all of the basics with ADULT ADD, and am looking forward to regaining at least some control of my life. As the last few years have been a real struggle for me in so many many ways. Meggie 2007: Hello,
I am a single mom of a nine year old boy. I have ADD, but he does not seem to. :-)
I found out about two years ago that I have ADD. I had been treated with Concerta for several months, which was definitely helping me. However, I lost my insurance coverage and could no longer afford the medication. Since then I have been struggling to keep things in my life going and it has not been easy, especially since I have such a young child at my age.
I went to a psychologist for several years before my divorce, then for awhile afterwords. That is when I started seeing a psychiatrist who treated me for the ADD. I now know that a lot of my life's difficulties were probably due to me having ADD - I always wondered what my problem was!
I also have an Anachroid Cyst in the frontal lobe of my brain. I found this out before I found out about my having ADD, and I didn't know the two might be related - but now I wonder if it contributes to the ADD. I have not discussed this with a doctor yet. (Supposedly I probably have had the cyst since I was young.)
Since my divorce I have tried to work, but have had problems keeping a job full time. If I could take my medication I know I could do better, but for now that is out of the question. I have been taking a fish oil product (Omega 3 & 6) and believe it or not I think it helps the ADD.
I am working part time as a day school teacher which I really enjoy. I will add more info later!
