ABOUT ME:
Four years ago, I was in an accident and fractured 2 vertebrae. Six months later, I underwent surgery to fuse three vertebrae in my spine - I was told that my spine was unstable. My medical records indicate that the surgery was performed to reduce pain. I would not have investigated every other possible option before having surgery if I had not been told that the surgery was necessary to keep me alive (the neurosurgeons I saw told me I was at serious risk of a spinal cord injury if I fell or hit my neck because the broken fragments could hit my spinal cord), particularly since my pain levels [or medication levels] increased dramatically after my surgery. The surgery was performed by highly reputable and respected nuerosurgeon at one of the top neurosurgery departments in the United States. I had terrible pain until I saw a pain management specialist, who nearly doubled my medication dosage. For almost a year aftewards, I had almost no pain. I am now on a considerably higher dose and have a lot more pain than I did a year ago.
