Although I have faced lifelong challenges with multiple disabilities compounded by extreme childhood abuse and neglect I consider myself to be an extremely fortunate individual whose blessings have far exceeded my negative Karma. I am extremely grateful for the resources that society eventually expended on me.
For this reason I am always conscious of wanting to give back by advocating and treating those who are often less able than I am to advocate for themselves.
The passage of the Americans with Disabilities Act in 1989 allowed me to redefine myself. For the first time I was able to be open about my disabilities and advocate for reasonable accomodations from employers. Since then I have been continously employed and experienced far less discrimination at work. I am a licensed health care professional undergoing physical rehabilitation for serious job related injuries. I hope to return to work next year as a psychotherapist. I am also a writer who hopes to begin publishing in print media.
