ABOUT ME:

I was diagnosed with type 2 three years ago. I questioned that diagnosis at the time because I did not have type 2 symptoms. I had type 1 symptoms, but was refused a test. I have spent the last three years on treatment for type 2. I diligently took my metformin everyday. Last week I went to the emergency room thinking I had pneumonia, turns out my blood sugar was 479. My blood had basically turned to ketchup. The attending dr told me that I could have taken metformin forever and it never would have lowered by blood sugar. I left the hospital at 162, the lowest I'd been since I was diagnosed. Very next morning I was back at 420 so I was sent for insulin injections. Finally I was checked for type 1 and as I had thought 3 years ago I am type 1. So now I am finally treating my diabetes properly, I am on insulin for the first time and my sugar is down to under 200. Not quite perfect but they don't want to drop me so fast that I crash. As you might imagine I am furious about the misdiagnosis that prevented me from recieving proper treatment for 3 years. But that is over now, I feel better now than I have in a very long time, insulin is not as scary as I thought it would be and I am going to get under control. I finally have the right diagnosis, drs I can trust and I finally feel like I can do this.
