topamax is the best

I started topamax April 13th and haven't had a migraine with aura since. It is now May 21st. I had gotten to a point where they had escalated in frequency to 2 times per week. They started me out on 25 mg, hen every week after that, added another 25 mg. I was up to 75mg when I met my Neuro for the first time and she said that I was losing weight too quickly and I wasn't sleeping well for about a month. I guess insomnia is a problem...

did anyone see The Sopranos last night?

I watched the Sopranos last night. Not my favorite show. Anyway, there was a part where this old man said that he could not go anywhere because his girlfriend had a migraine, she was in bed. It was the middle of the day.

At some point later on in the show, he went in to check on her. She had her eyes covered so as to not let in any sunlight. He was talking to her, she did not respond. He touched her,...

Moving on w/Topamax and Art as Worthy Opponent

It’s hard to even know what to think of myself as an artist right now. I’m so used to thinking of myself lately as a migraineur. For the last 6 months, I have been obsessed with figuring out how to stop these attacks and watching for the next new threshold of developments, should they arrive (and they did): scheduling doctor appointments: trying new meds, hoping to Christ they worked: praying that I could get through reading an...

Magnesium Deficiency in Drinking Water

I found an article that explain why people think that drinking water could help with migraine - it is more directly related to the minerals within hard drinking water.

http://www.mgwater.com/listd.shtml
"According to the U.S. National Academy of Sciences (1977) there have been more than 50 studies, in nine countries, that have indicated an inverse relationship between water hardness and mortality from cardiovascular disease. That...

Possible that abortives cause greater frequency?

I have just started taking abortives within the last month, and it seems that the frequency has increased X3. It's almost every week now.

Anyone have any thoughts on this??

Just drink lots of water, and you will be cured

I was dumb enough to mention to people, when this disease was quite new to me, what I had been diagnosed with. I was also dumb enough to think that normal people around me might have heard something about the disease and how others may have kicked it altogether. Needless to say, I have learned my lesson.

Bunches of Poems

All in all, I feel pretty much unscathed by my attacks with the exception of a rather serious outbreak of crappy poetry. ------------------------
Aurora Borealis

At the top of the world
Or at the bottom
Particles react
 With sunlight to create
Ethereal living color
Weaving in and out of our perception
Hinting at light spectrums
 We cannot see.

On one side of my head
Or the other
Chemicals react
With light to create...

Doctor's Visit Went Well, Mom More Supportive

I went to my general practitioner on Thursday. Because I am a data analyst, I had charts and trendlines calculated from my 5 attacks. I had an Intensity trendline and a frequency trendline. Without the meds, the intensity trendline sharply escalates. With the meds, the intensity trendline goes down a bit.

He was easy to talk to. I told him the main focus of my visit was to ensure that I was doing everything I possibly could to prevent...

Discrepancy on the site?

I have seen the two following statements on two different pages on this site, and they seem to be conflicting:

"When effective, abortives stop the Migraine attack and the associated symptoms. Migraineurs may still experience the Migraine postdrome, that phase that some people call a "Migraine hang-over." Migraine abortives include:
Triptans: Imitrex, Maxalt, Zomig, Amerge, Axert, Relpax, and Frova "

"For most people Zomig provides...
