I am a freelance writer and multiple-trauma survivor. Having learned to conquer childhood-onset PTSD through Dialectical Behavioral Therapy and my spiritual connection, I share my experiences in the hopes that at least a few people might be helped on their own journeys of recovery.
When I say I have "recovered" from anxiety & depression, what I really mean is that I've learned how to manage these aspects of my life just as I have the fact that I have asthma. And I now think of each one of these conditions in pretty much the same way; something I have under control but occasionally have to spend a bit of time and attention dealing with.
Like anyone else who has survived the kinds of things I have, I am far more than the sum of my negative experiences; I am a creative, loving, happy and successful human being. And like everyone, whether or not they've ever had PTSD or depression, I am working on life every day.
Interesting facts about me: I am a trained swordfighter, have undertaken two vision quests, and left an MFA program in Poetry when I was offered a job as a journalist.
