13 Things You Don't Want To Say To Someone With Chronic Pain

I belong to another chronic pain site. It isn't as good as this one. One of the things I read in it I want to share with you. The following was written on a tote bag. I don't know who the original author is . It did not say. It also didn't say where the tote bag is sold. I wish I knew because I would like to buy one. I guess it is also printed on t-shirts. We all need one, don't you think?

Ways of getting my mind off the pain

I have a few different ways of trying to get my mind off of my pain, but I'm getting bored with them. Anybody have any new ideas? I read a lot. I've listed all the books I own and have read on my computer. The number is now over 800. Sometimes I read more than a book a day. I also am on the computer almost every day. I've played hundreds of games on there. I read the news on there etc. I watch TV almost every day. I also cross stitch. I...

Being Judged For Not Working

In a previous sharepost I talked about being judged for taking narcotics. Being judged for not working goes right along with it. There are lots of people who think I should still be working. I've been cut down because I'm now on disabilty. I guess I don't look like what they think disabled people should look like. I worked until 2005 when I just couldn't stand it anymore. Working made my pain much worse. I worked as a secretary in the...

Relationships or lack of relationships

Has anyone out there started a new relationship after your chronic pain began? I'm so lonely, but I'm sure I couldn't even begin to have a normal relationship with a man. People who aren't in pain don't understand. My late husband had chronic pain and our marriage totally fell apart. I just don't want to spend the rest of my life alone. On the other hand, I can't imagine how hard it would be to try and live a normal life. I've lost friendships...

Being in chronic pain and living with someone in chronic pain

Until two years ago I straddled both sides of the fence. I don't know which side is worse. My late husband and I both had chronic pain. I still do. He had a work related back injury and then five years later I got injuried falling down the stairs. It's tough watching someone you care about hurting all of the time. Of coarse I didn't realize how bad he had it until I was also living with it myself. Our relationship totally fell apart. It probably...

Tired of being judged for taking narcotics

Is there anyone else out there that is being judged harshly for taking narcotics? I worked as a sectretary in an ER for 20 years before I became disabled because of chronic pain after having 5 back surgeries. Someone looked at my medical records and found out what meds I'm taking. I went from being liked and respected to being a scum in their eyes. If anyone of them hurt as bad as I do they would take meds too. Some people treat me like I'm a...

My first time here

It's my first time here and I'm trying to figure out how to use this. I've had chronic pain for almost ten years. My pain is in my low back and left leg. I've had five low back surgeries and two nerve releases in my left leg. Now I have scar tissue wrapped around my nerve roots. As a result I have severe pain and nerve damage.
