Terrible News About Vitamin D

Dear Friends,

At the risk of sounding alarmist I am posting this piece of research done by Duke University which states very categorically that Vitamin D is responsible for brain lesions in the elderly. This is due to its immunosuppresive actions, while the bacteria that cause the brain inflammations run rampant.

Please read this article and comment on whether...

Vit D and Cholesterol levels

Dear Friends and Members,More and more people are taking high doses of Vitamin D these days for osteoporosis and osteopenia these days.I wish to state at the outset that I am a pro-Vitamin D believer and am learning more and more about its effects on the health from members here as well as research sites that contradict each other.I found this information by a lady so important that I wished to post it as a separate discussion which...

SOS on Vitamin D

Dear Friends,

I have been taking large amounts of Vitamin D, 60,000 IU per week, and also about 1200 mg per day of Calicum for osteoporosis! And others too have been taking it with great enthusiasm! Now there is an SOS flashed across on December 3, 2009 that this can be dangerous if there is a mutation of the gene in the blood -- about which no one really knows. The research article says that there is danger of the calcification of the...

Biophosphonates good or bad?

Dear Members,I thought it was about time that we gathered together to express what we have experienced with biophosphonates, as these are the only drugs for treating osteoporosis all over the world -- and they have recently drawn much fire. Yet there are some who claim to have benefited from them. Almost everyone is afraid to give them up -- because they are what the doctor prescribed! My knowledge about them is very little. I took Actonel 35 mg...

Biophosphonates cause Osteoclasts

Osteoporosis Drugs Work But...

A recent study of Jan 1, 2009 has shown that biophosphonates produce giant osteoclasts -- which are as yet unexplained. Osteoclasts are cells that
produce bone break up.

Even otherwise latest research has shown that in women who take Fosamax for a long time the number of osteoclasts go up in a yet unexplained phenomenon.

The drug companies are saying that: "Even though...

Large Doses of Vitamin D helpful in Osteoporosis

Dear Friends,

Current research has it that large doses of VitaminD can be safely taken and have proven helpful in osteoporosis.

I wonder whether one day large doses of Vit D will replace the biophosphonates which have already come in for much debate because of the side effects like jaw necrosis. Will Vitamin D in high doses be the panacea the world is waiting for? I dont know. But I would ask the members here to read the...
