As a nurse practitioner, I never thought I would be the one seeking for the answers on living well. I was diagnosed in the early spring of 2007, but only after a long 2 years of feeling tired and having non-descript pain. Looking back, the pain and fatigue started while I was in graduate school and working full time. As the pain intensified and my symptoms became more prominant, my family doctor began testing me for everything from hypothyroidism to Rheumatoid Arthritis. All the specific testing came back negative, except for the C Reactive Protein and the Sed Rate. These were elevated. As he continued to run the same tests, I began growing tired of being his pin cushion. I wanted answers and had done research myself, but he did not want to diagnose me with Fibro. I had to find the answer, even if my wonderful primary care doctor had to be fired. At this point, after 2 years of pain and increasing fatigue I changed doctors and was blessed with a referral to a rheumatologist. A few more lab tests and another exam, I had my answer... I had Fibromyalgia. Now, determined to live my life well and not give into the pain and fatigue that I fight with most days, I search for the answers. Someday I hope there is a cure, but for now I search for ways to live my life and grow old without pain.PHOTOS:
