Migraine and Suicide Blog Series

I did a blog post on my blog, Fly With Hope called Migraine and Suicide back in July. Starting yesterday in honor of National Suicide Prevention Week (4th-10th) and Pain Awareness Month (September) I am posting every day this week a series of topics on Migraine and Suicide including what to do when you're suicidal, ideas of what to do when you're at the end of your rope, prevention ideas, stories from the community of those who have attempted,...

The Attack

Her powerful hand grasps the back of my neck.
My temples are squeezed with the heat of its partner.
Those hands might crush me but instead she strikes.

Her knife mines the side of my head carving pathways within.
Merciless is her blade.

Suddenly the essence is magnified.
Light tears into my skull.
Eyelids ripped off.
With each touch, with each sound, I feel her pierce again.

She digs and scrapes and pulls...

Thank you, MMC.

Thank you. Two simple words, but I mean them from the bottom of my heart. I've been coming to this website since November 2007 and since then so much has changed because of being here.

The MMC page and forum have changed my life. When I came to this website, I was scared, alone, did not know how to advocate for myself, did not know that I needed to change, did not know so many things about my disease or how to be an active member of my...

Who's Sleeping in My Bed?!

Last night I didn't sleep well at all. I tossed and turned. Yup, you guessed it, I had a migraine! I could not get comfortable. But it wasn't just me and the migraine in my bed. So were my husband and my dog. And poor them... they didn't have a migraine. So the 4 of us, my husband, my dog, the Beastie and myself all tossed and turned last night. When the beastie joins us, I want that bed all to...

I have an invisible disease.

I did it! I told someone that I have an invisible disease. And it felt so good! I don't get out much due to my headaches, so my friends and acquintences who know I have migraine and New Persistant Daily Headache (NPDH) often get updates from my husband on how I am doing or contact me through email. Well, I'll give you one guess what is one of the first things they say when they do see me?!?! You guessed it!...

We actually laughed and smiled!

Yesterday I felt like I was standing in the middle of a see-saw. Was my migraine finished? Sometimes when it is licked, it is difficult for me to tell because I have NPDH and that pain is exacerbated by the migraine. The migraine pain had been going on for 7 days, with some intervals during my rescue meds of relief. But, on the whole, I was worn out and ready to be finished of course...hoping the see-saw tilted finally to kicking this...

Going to Headache Specialist Appt Tomorrow!

It has only been 2 months or so, but it seems like forever. I have learned SO much from being on this website, reading shareposts and talking to others on the forum. I cannot wait to ask him all of the questions I have. He is not going to know what hit him (or me!) I am a little nervous, but I'm mostly excited. Here's to a good appointment!

SO sensitive to smell

I'm really sensitive to a couple of things consistently: sound and smell, though not as intensely as when I am in the middle of a migraine. (Then, I cannot stand ANY sound or ANY touch or ANY smell.) I have thought the daily thing is perhaps a part of my NDPH or a side-effect of a med I'm on. But, regardless, I'm really sensitive to smell and sound. Tonight, I was getting a piece of cheesecake (yum!)...
